면적이 각각 297㎡인 실내와 외부테라스로 이루어진 이 공간은 높은 건물들 사이에 자리한다.
해 질 무렵 노을이 공간을 둘러싸고 있는 건물들 사이로 내비치는 절경을 선사하는 동안 실내 공간은 모노톤의 테라스로 바뀌게 된다.
두 면의 창문이 꺾이면서 외부 테라스 영역으로 연결되는 이 공간은 내부와 외부가 서로 다른 공간으로 해석되지 않아야 한다는 생각에서 설계가 시작되었다.
정면의 굵고 네모진 기둥을 중심으로
기다란 바 카운터의 구조로 시작하는 매스가 공간감을 형성하고 있으며,
천장-기둥-바 카운터-바닥으로 이어지는 하나의 시퀀스가 공간의 무게중심을 잡아준다.
우리는 바 카운터 끝쪽에 보이는 테라스로 이어지는 문의 스케일을 의도적으로 과장하여, 노을부터 도시의 야경까지 온전히 실내로 유입시킴으로써
실내 공간과 테라스 간의 경계를 모호하게 만들었다. 현장에서 제작된 의자와 테이블이 놓인 좌석 영역은 조금씩 다른 형태의 매스를 구성하지만 서로 조화롭게 어우러져,
바 카운터가 형성하는 매스와 대조를 이루며 편안한 분위기를 조성한다.
창가 바깥쪽에 심긴 갈대를 내다볼 수 있는 창가 안쪽에 놓인 좌석 영역과 중앙에 배치된 좌석 영역 사이 천장에는 오브제가 설치되어 있다.
오브제의 구성요소들은 자연조명인 햇빛과 인공조명을 동시에 받을 수 있는 각도로 맞추어졌다.
프레임 사이로 빛을 받았다가 다시 내보내도록 디자인된 팔걸이가 있는 의자는 내외부의 경계가 모호한 이 공간의 특징을 단적으로 표현하는 상징적이면서 기능적인 오브제 역할을 한다.
조명계획에 있어서 인공조명은 기능적 필요성에 의해서만 사용하고 테이블 조명과 외부의 발목등을 적용함으로써, 전체적으로 자연광에 방해가 되는 요소를 최소화하였다.
우리는 이 공간의 특징인 내외부의 모호한 경계를 강조하기 위해
돌, 돌의 질감을 내는 페인트, 벽돌 등을 주요 자재로 선택하여,
도심 속의 테라스라는 이 공간의 지향점을 드러냈다.
This space consisting of interior space and exterior terrace with an area of 297㎡ perspectively, is located between tall buildings.
At sunset, the interior space is transformed into a monotonous terrace while the setting sun presents a magnificent view through the gap between the buildings surrounding this space.
The design of this space which leads to the exterior terrace area along with two bent windows, began from the thought that the inside and the outside should not be interpreted as different spaces.
A mass formed by the structure of a long bar counter centering around a thick and square pillar in the front creates a spatial sense, and a sequence connected in order of ceiling-pillar-bar counter-floor marks the center of gravity in the space.
The design team intentionally exaggerated the scale of the door which leads to the terrace at the end of the bar counter, blurring the boundary between the interior space and the terrace by taking the sunset and the night city view into the interior space. The seating area with chairs and tables manufactured on the spot constitutes a mass with somewhat different shape, but they are placed in harmony with each other, creating a comfortable and cozy atmosphere in contrast to the mass formed by the bar counter. An object is installed on the ceiling between the seat area placed in the center and that placed inside the window which provides the view of the reed planted outside the window. The object’s components are arranged at an angle where they can receive the natural sunlight and the artificial lighting at the same time.
The chair with armrests designed to receive light through the opening between its frames and to send it out again,
serves as a symbolic and functional object that clearly expresses the feature of this space with ambiguous boundary between inside and outside.
As for the lighting plan, in general, elements which disrupt the natural light are minimized by using the artificial lighting only for the functional necessity and by applying table lamp and outdoor lower wall lamp.
In order to emphasize the spatial feature, the ambiguous boundary between inside and outside, the design team selected stone, stone-textured paint, and brick as the main materials, revealing the spatial aim to be a terrace in the heart of the city.
